A Long Day

As all dogs know, our days are full of constant excitement and movement and adventure. From the moment we wake up we are on a mission; a mission to abolish every moving thing around us, to demolish and destroy every possible distraction, and to eat as much as we can, be that food or other item of interest. We find it very difficult to be at peace unless we're asleep.
This is what we need humans for. To pet us so that we feel comforted. To feed us since it was they who demanded domesticity. To entertain us since they are the ones who have put a fence around the yard. And to love us unconditionally since we do the same for them. It is a two-way street, it seems. We provide you with, hopefully, years of adoration. Please do the same for us.
In turn, you might be rewarded. Comical moments of hilarity that you can feel free to post on Facebook or tweet about on Twitter, to share with your friends via a text or SMS message, and plenty of opportunities for Christmas cards. Trust me when I say that we allow this. It does not happen by accident.
The reason I know this....I am dog. In every way possible. I've lived it and will continue to put up with the cute clothes, the plush toys, the sticky fingers of kids wanting to pet me at the park, and the leash. Oh the leash. That is an entirely other conversation.
In conclusion, I will say this. Humans aren't all that bad in the grander scheme of things. You do us a great honor, as well. Flea medications and fluffy-frilly beds that feel like heaven after a long dog-day. Sensationally tasty treats that come in the shapes of bones. We'll forgive you the trips to the veterinarian if you forgive the presents we sometimes tend to leave under the dining room table.
Most importantly, you give us love. Pure and simple. I hope that all of my fellow dogs out there are as lucky and as blessed as I am. May we all live long, healthy, and happy lives with humans who can't stand leaving us home alone.  ~ Chug
